Question 1

What are weak keys?

Accepted Answer

Weak keys are the specific keys on your keyboard that you type more slowly or less accurately than others. Most typists have a handful of problem keys — often letters that appear infrequently in everyday typing, or keys that require awkward finger stretches.

Question 2

How does TypeForge detect my weak keys?

Accepted Answer

TypeForge tracks your accuracy and response time for every key across your lessons and speed tests. Keys where you make more errors or hesitate longer are flagged as weak keys and prioritised in your drill sessions.

Question 3

How often should I practice weak key drills?

Accepted Answer

A common approach is one 3–5 minute weak key drill session per day alongside your regular typing practice. Consistency matters more than session length — many people find short daily sessions easier to keep up than occasional long ones.

Question 4

Does weak key practice improve overall typing speed?

Accepted Answer

Many typists find it does. Weak keys create bottlenecks — they're the keys that slow you down or break your flow mid-word, and reducing those hesitations often has a large impact on overall WPM.

Question 5

Can beginners use weak key drills?

Accepted Answer

Weak key drills work best once you have some typing data on file — after completing a few lessons or speed tests, TypeForge has enough information to identify your specific problem keys. Complete the first few Foundations lessons first, then try the weak key mode.
