Who is behind TypeForge

TypeForge is an independent project by Andrew, a web builder based in British Columbia, Canada. It is not a school, a company or a professional training provider. It is a free place for adults to practice touch typing and build speed and accuracy, without the cartoons, mid-lesson ads and clutter you find on many typing sites. TypeForge is a personal project. Andrew is building it with his daughter in mind, as something he hopes will last and one day be hers.

What you can do on TypeForge today

  • Lessons: thirty-one lessons are available now, covering the letters, capital letters, everyday punctuation, numbers and common symbols, with more planned. Each lesson shows an on-screen keyboard, a finger guide and live feedback on every keystroke.
  • Speed Test: timed tests of 15, 30, 60 or 120 seconds, or a set number of words, or a quote. You see your WPM, accuracy and consistency.
  • Weak Key Drills: 1, 3 or 5 minute sessions that focus on the keys you miss most, based on your results.
  • Race Mode: race against four bots that type at about 20, 35, 55 and 80 WPM.
  • Stats: your best and average WPM, accuracy, practice time and words typed.
  • Guides and Jobs: practical typing guides, and a hand-picked list of remote typing-related jobs.

Everything works without an account. Your progress is saved in your browser, or synced to a free account if you choose to register.

How our guides are made

Our guides are drafted with the help of AI tools. Andrew reviews and edits them before publishing. We say this openly because you should know how the content you read was produced. To keep the guides useful and honest:

  • When we cite figures from outside sources, such as government pay data, we link to the source.
  • Estimates and rules of thumb are labeled as such. They are not promises of results.
  • We show a "Last updated" date on guides as we review them, and we correct mistakes when we find them.
  • Guides are general information, not professional, medical, legal or financial advice.

Advertising and affiliate links

Some guides contain affiliate links, for example to Amazon, Transcribe Anywhere, Rocket Languages and Make My Plan. If you buy through one, TypeForge may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Guides with affiliate links say so at the top. The site may also show advertising. We try to describe products accurately, including their limits, for example when a course does not offer refunds.

About the jobs board

The Jobs page lists remote typing-related jobs that we pick by hand from public postings. TypeForge is not the employer and does not handle applications. Listings expire and details such as pay can change, so always confirm on the employer's own site. We check the listings regularly and remove expired ones.
